About IIT JAM: What This Admission Is
The IIT JAM is the Joint Admission Test for Masters. Its score is used for M.Sc, joint M.Sc-PhD and similar programmes at the IITs and for several other institutes.
IIT has put out the notice for JAM, and the details that matter for a student are explained below.
Each IIT runs its own admission process after the Sarkari Result, so keep a watch on the notices of the institute you want.
Who Should Apply for JAM
The qualification shown for this notice is Graduate. Please compare it with your own marksheet, including the subjects and the minimum marks if the notice mentions them.
The fee table of this page lists every category. If you are not sure which one applies to you, the category line in your certificate decides it.
The form is filled online.
A good rule is to apply only when every eligibility line matches your papers. Close enough is not enough in an admission form.
IIT JAM Dates: How to Plan Your Time
The form opened on 12 Sep 2026 and closes on 12 Oct 2026.
8 days remain. Plan the form, the documents and the fee within the next two or three days and keep the rest as a buffer.
The exam date given is 14 Feb 2027. The time between the form and the exam is the part where students gain or lose the most.
Dates can be extended or changed. We update this page when the organisation does so, but the official notice always shows the final dates.
What Happens After You Apply for JAM
For a postgraduate admission, the steps usually run in this order, though IIT may change or merge some of them.
- Application and fee payment
- Entrance test, if the notice has one, or evaluation of the marks of the qualifying exam
- Merit or rank list and the call for counselling or interview
- Document verification with original certificates
- Payment of the admission fee and confirmation of the seat
Watch the official website and your registered mobile number. A missed message is the most common reason for a lost seat.
Mistakes That Cost Students an Admission
- Entering the form on a copy site. The address in the notice is the only safe starting point.
- Uploading a blurred photo or a signature in the wrong size, which the system may accept but the verifying officer will reject
- Writing a name or date of birth in a different spelling from the certificates
- Choosing a category without a valid certificate in the format asked for
- Paying the fee twice after a slow payment page, without checking the first payment first
- Believing an agent who promises a seat for money. Government admissions never work that way
If something goes wrong, write to the helpline given in the notice and keep a copy of your message.
Getting Ready for the JAM Exam
With roughly 19 weeks to go, fix a simple weekly plan: two days for the weaker subjects, two for the stronger ones, one for old papers and one for revision.
Solve the previous papers of the same exam under a timer. They show the real level and the way questions are asked. The syllabus and pattern are in the official notice linked on this page.
