Age Calculator for Government Jobs – Check Your Age on the Cut-off Date

24YEARS

Age is the first thing to check before you apply for a government job. The notice gives an age limit, such as 18 to 27 years, but it is counted on a fixed cut-off date, for example 1 January of the year, and not on the day you fill the form. A few days can decide whether you are eligible or not.

This age calculator tells your exact age in years, months and days on any date you choose. You can also type the minimum age, the maximum age and your category relaxation, and the tool tells you at once whether you are inside the limit and until which date you stay inside.

How to use the Age Calculator

  1. Choose your date of birth exactly as written in your 10th class certificate.
  2. In "Age as on", choose the cut-off date given in the notice. Today's date is filled by default.
  3. To check a job, type the minimum age and the maximum age, and choose your category or type the number of relaxation years.
  4. Press "Calculate my age" to see your age, the next birthday and whether you fit the age limit.

Why the cut-off date matters

The age limit of a recruitment is almost never counted from the day of application. The notice says something like "age as on 1 August 2026". If you complete 18 years on 2 August 2026, you are one day short, even if you apply later. So always use the date written in the notice and not the date of today.

How the upper age limit is counted

Notices are not all written in the same way. In most central recruitments a candidate must not have completed the maximum age on the cut-off date, which means that if the limit is 27, a person who is exactly 27 years old is already out. A few notices allow a candidate up to one year after the maximum age. This calculator lets you choose either rule so that you can match your notice. If the notice gives "born not earlier than" a date, you can use that date to check yourself directly.

Age relaxation

Government rules give some extra years to certain categories, for example OBC, SC and ST candidates, persons with disability, ex-servicemen and sometimes women or residents of the state. The common numbers are shown in the list for your help, but the relaxation differs from post to post and from state to state, and it can also be different for the same category in two notices. Always type the exact number written in your notification.

An example

Suppose a notice says age limit 18 to 27 years as on 1 January 2026, with 3 years relaxation for OBC. Raju was born on 20 March 1999, so on 1 January 2026 he is 26 years, 9 months and 12 days old. He is inside the general limit. Meena was born on 5 February 1997, so on the same date she is 28 years and about 11 months old. Under the general rule she is out, but with 3 years of OBC relaxation the upper limit becomes 30, and she is inside. This is the kind of check the tool does for you in one click.

Frequently asked questions

Which date of birth should I use?

Use the date of birth printed on your 10th class mark sheet or certificate. That is the one the department checks.

Can I find my age on a future date?

Yes. Type any date in "Age as on", for example the last date of the form or the date of the exam.

Does the tool include relaxation for my category?

It adds the relaxation years that you select or type. The numbers shown are the common ones, so confirm them in the notification.

What does "until the day before" mean in the result?

It is the last day for which your age is still inside the upper limit. On the date shown you cross the limit.

Is my date of birth stored?

No. The calculation is done in your browser, and nothing is saved or sent.
